Kuroyukihime ♥ + buta pattern

I am slowly starting to make some progress with Kuroyukihime. I have already made a mock up for the bodysuit but it needs some fixing before I can actually start working with real materials. I'm planning to add some boning to the bodysuit to give it more structure and hoping it'll be enough to handle the weight of the wings, so I don't have to make an actual harness. I'm also intrigued with the idea of adding lights to the costume but I'm not quite sure If I can afford them and if I can actually make them work.

I have also done a lot of planning and researching. I usually like to see how others have made the exact costume to see how they have solved all the problems with the costume, like where they have placed the seams or how they have interpretated the whole costume from 2D to 3D. Then I'll try to mimic the bits I like from each costume I find (WIP material is your best friend here, but also pictures of finished costumes can be helpful). This time I'm out of luck though, because there's only few who have made the costume and no WIP material nor clear shots of finished cosplay  (๑′̥̥̥▵‵̥̥̥ ૂ๑)

I have still managed to get a decent plan how to make the costume and how to make all the armor pieces and from which material. I still need to research how to attach all the armor pieces to the costume, though.  Hope everything will work out as planned (/ ‘з’)/

Besides bodysuit, I have also started working on the hand armors. I have purchased finnfoam (that is insulator used in buildings). I'm going to sculpt it and then use the sculpted finnfoam kinda like a mold for the worbla. Not sure if it'll work out as planned, but we'll see~

I have also almost finished my little buta plushie (Haruyuki Aritas pig avatar). I'm making the OVA-version of it which is almost the same as normal except there is feathers on his ears and tiny wings on his back (though I'm not gonna make the wings because I'm making winged version of Kuroyukihime. which means that Haru doesn't have the wings since he lent them to Kuroyukihime)

How it looks like - still need to make hoofs
I made the plushie from fleece and I sew it all by hand. I used baby pink fleece for the body and colored the cheeks and the nose with colored pencils. White fleece I used for eyes. I used black thread for pupils, eyebrowns, bellybutton, nostrils and outlining the eyes. I also glued some feathers for to the ears. I'm gonna make the hoofs from worbla

PATTERNS:
I made the patterns for the plushie. There is NO seam allowances so you should add them. If you print the patterns in size A4 the plushie should be around 40 cm.

How to assemble the plushie

1. Sew FRONT HEAD patterns together from the middle
2. Sew BACK HEAD patterns together from the middle
3. Sew EARS, turn them , sew along the dashed line, add stuffing to the smaller section
4. Sew assembled FRONT HEAD and BACK HEAD together from the sides. At the same time add EARS so that the smaller section is closer to the middle seam. The little marking on the front and back head indicates where the ears should start. Leave a gap for stuffing.
5. Sew BODY patterns together first from the middle and then from the sides, leave a gap for stuffing.
6. Add stuffing and close the gaps. Attach head to the body.
7. Sew together LEGS, and NOSE (remember to leave a gap for turning and stuffing, and after stuffing close the gap). Sew together ARM 1 and ARM 2.
8. Stuff LEGS and ARMS and then attach them to the body.
9. Attach nose and eyes. With black thread, sew all the details. Add also tail (no pattern here but I just made it from rectangular piece of fabric)
10. Hot glue feathers
11. Add color to the cheeks and nose with colored pencils

★Tracon X★

★Saturday★

On saturday there were so many well done love live cosplays :3 I really enjoyed seeing all of them, especially group/pair cosplays. I was also cosplaying from love live since I was umi. Though I think the outfit I chose to make wasn't the most recognizable. But I liked the kimono inspired outfit so much myself and I still think some people recognized me.

I went to watch only cosplay competitions. The WCS performances were all really good this year and for me there wasn't a clear winner. I also enjoyed myself watching the pair cosplay, or more like dreaming of making some pair cosplay and participating in the competition myself.

And I also saw tiny black, fluffy  and cute catplushie in the dealers room, but I didn't buy it because I thought it would be there on sunday aswell. But when I started looking at it on Sunday all the tiny cat plushies were gone (ˊ̥̥̥̥̥ ³ ˋ̥̥̥̥̥) I need to buy one immediately when I see it in next con !

★Sunday★

Second appearance of my Sheryl Nome cosplay. Surprisingly, not many pictures were taken of this cosplay. I was honestly expecting more people asking for a photo, but for some reason it just didn't happen. But that doesn't really bother me, since I do understand that not everyone knows the character and people have all kind of reasons not taking a picture. My reason is usually that I'm too shy to ask for a photo (*´ω`*)  I'm always thinking to myself before the con that today I'm taking pictures of all the cosplays I know and find beautiful... But I end up not having any pictures after the con... oh well... maybe next time

Tracon was the last con in this year for me. Now I'm starting to work on Kuroyukihime and if it works out well I might take it to the stage ~~

EDIT: forgot to put this gorgeous picture in the end XD

Lovelive! Umi, START DASH!!

Tracon is getting closer and closer and I've been working like crazy to finish Umi. When I started working on Umi,  I didn't even realize how much work the costume needed, I thought it was just a nice quick costume to make... But now it's luckily almost done O(≧∇≦)O

For the costume I bought 4 meters of lilac cotton fabric and 1,5 meters of dark blue crêpe polyester fabric. I had some lace hanging in the closet which I thought was appropriate for this costume, even though it differs from the reference picture. I used around 10 meters of that. I also used 10 meters of the tinier lace in the hem and armhole. For the headpiece I bought two flowers and sacrificed my old necklace that I don't use anymore. To paint all the flowers and stripes I bought 100 m of masking tape and 4 different colors of fabric paint. The blue thing on the left corner is for stencils. I also needed light blue satin ribbon and interfacing which are not in the picture.

I started the costume by cutting all the pieces and sewing the top together (except I didn't sew the collar yet).
Pieces for the top. I ended up altering it a little after sewing, so the dashed line is how it looked after the alterations.

top sewn together
After sewing the top I spent a whole day applying tape in order to paint all the stripes.... I ended up using all the tape I had bought and I even needed more tape, so I had to reuse some of the tapes Σ(゜ロ゜;) To make the paint, I mixed water and fabric paint until I got the color I wanted and then spend the next day just painting stripes.  It was actually a lot faster to paint than it was to tape. While doing all of those things I watched both seasons of  love live (in which you can also make a conclusion that it really was a time consuming thing to do).

The tape was 25 mm and I cut 1 cm piece from paper and used it so that I could make the stripes even

painting the first sleeve... (the color will dry much lighter)

and in case you are wondering how 100 meters of masking tape would look like if it was made into a ball.. then here you go (*•̀ᴗ•́*)و ̑̑
When I had finished  with the stripes I ironed all the fabrics since they became so wrinkly and I thought it was easier to paint the flowers on, if the fabrics were flat. I attached front side of the collar to the top and I had ironed interfacing to the collar before sewing it. At this point I also cut 4 cm off the top before applying the collar to make it fit better.

Then I drew 5 different sizes of flowers and 3 different sizes of leaves, traced them on the blue stencil paper and cut the shapes with box cutter. I also made fish looking things from foam to paint the fabric with and I used them and brushes.

When all the flowers and leaves were painted I once again ironed all the things, this time to make the paint stay

After that I started working on all the little details, like adding the lace and finishing raw edges.

sewing ruffles on the bottom. At this point It looked a little like all the Hawaiian shirts men wear in the summer (◡‿◡✿)

How I finished the armholes

Sewing lace to the sleeves

Finished! there is a place for a elastic band

Elastic band on its place :3

More lace added to the top (and sleeves, which is not in the picture)
The top part and the sleeves were finally finished and I moved on to make the headpiece. It was easy to make but unfortunately, I don't have ant wip pictures of it へ[ •́ ‸ •̀ ]ʋ Anyways, I first made the orange flower out of the sunflower and after that I applied the most yellow petals from the other flower, leaves from the sunflower and pearls from the necklace.

How it came out
For the back bow I sew 3 stripes of light blue satin ribbon (for the obi I sew 2 and the third stripe in the middle is going to be brown.) After the picture below was taken I decided to add two stripes to the middle part , since it looks a little empty. I'm not quite sure if there really is a bow behind the dress because I'm using only one photo as a reference and you can't see the back of the dress in that picture. But bow is part of the aesthetic of the kimono and I really love bows, so I wanted to add one (。♥‿♥。) +all the stores that sell this costume had included the bow

back bow in progress
I needed to dye some lace for the obi because I wanted to use the same lace I used for the top and the sleeves. But instead of expensive fabric dyes, I used tea instead. Yes, you read right, I used some black earl grey tea, cheapest I could find. I'm not sure if the color will be able to handle a washing machine, but if it doesn't, I'll just color it again (with real fabric dye this time).

Testing whether it actually dyes the fabric...
And it did! (It looks brown for some reason in this picture)
I added a little salt in the tea hoping it will make the color stick better to the fabric. The result looks good, but I might soak those colored laces in the yellow paint to give it a little tint of yellow that it's missing.

I have little to say about the skirt, except it has been very troublesome. There are 3 layers of fabric of which 2 is ruffled and on top of that the cotton is a little stretchy, so to sew the waistband so that it looks neat is impossible. Luckily there is going to be elastic band, so all the mistakes I made, can't be seen.

One hem finished, other waiting to be finished!

This is how I decided to finish the hem.
Most of the costume is now done! Still need to finish the obi and bow though. But I'm sure I get it done in time. A bigger problem is that I'm trying to figure out what I'm gonna wear this costume with (I mean the socks and shoes) since they are not visible in the reference picture. I'm thinking of  wearing black over the knee socks, because Umi doesn't really like showing her knees. But I'm not quite sure yet.

Worbla and cosplay plans

I've been a little busy so I haven't had time to update my blog for a while and frankly I haven't done anything cosplay related after desucon. Except, I ordered 2 X-large sheets of worbla and 6 sheets of craftfoam from mycostume.de and they arrived superfast (ノ^ヮ^)ノ*:・゚✧ I can't wait to start working on kuroyukihimes outfit, but I have to cool myself down for a little since Kuroyukihime is going to be worn in the summer of 2016 for the first time... Don't want to rush the costume and make it ready for the next con (which is in september) so I'll have to wait till next summer to wear it. Atleast I have time to make it now ( ̄ω ̄)

But let's move to the order:

Like I said earlier the order took less than a week to arrive which is superfast in my opinion. It was packed well, worbla sheets was rolled like in the picture and the craftfoam sheets were between the two worbla sheets. And there was also bubble wrap around the worbla. Unfortunately one corner (which you can see on the picture) was a little bent during the delivery, but  I think It's still possible to use all the bent parts.

I'll have to give five stars for the customer service! There was a handwritten kiitos :) (means thank you in finnish) at the end of the receipt. I was very surprised when I saw that since I didn't expect a thank you and especially not in my native language when the shop is from germany. If I need more worbla someday I'll definitely order it from here again (✿ ♥‿♥)

And last but not least something about my cosplay plans: I haven't really felt like making miyuki, so instead of her I'm making Umi sonoda (*´▽`*) I must admit I haven't watch the anime love live! but I'm addicted to the game made for phone from the anime (LoveLive! School idol festival, you should download it asap). And when I got one specific UR card for umi I fell in love ♥ even though I haven't yet got it idolized myself I'm gonna make the idolized  version of this Cotton Kimono Girl umi ♥♥♥ So I'll be wearing this cool kimono in tracon ♥

so prettyy

Desucon 2015 ♥

♥ Saturday

The convention started at friday, but I have nothing to write about that day, so I'll just move straight to saturday that was quite exciting day (´ ▽`).。o♡

As you can see, I wore Sheryls costume that day and I ended up placing second in the hall cosplay competition. To be honest, I have been hoping to get picked in the hall cosplay competition for a long time, but I never thought it would happen since there are so many good cosplayers. But anyways I was happy to get picked in the competition. I have been wanting to participate in some sort of cosplay competition for a while now, but I am a bit shy so I've never done it. And on top of that I have no stage experience. So when I got picked, I was very nervous to walk on the stage... and even more frightened about the thought I might have to speak in front of the audience.

Luckily for me, everything went well and I did enjoy it a little. It could have been a lot better, but considering my legs were literally shaking before going to the stage, I think I did the best I could. I wish I had Sheryl's stage presence and her fearless attitude (╯ಊ╰)

Second place was a real surprise for me. In the backstage I was looking at all the costumes other people had and I didn't think I'd stand a change against them. But second place (//∇//) ♡ so happyy I got a medal and a gift card as a prize. I'm planning to use the gift card to make my ultimate dream cosplay happen: Kuroyukihime in accel assault version from anime accel world (actually from Accel world OVA).

So pretty

Sunday ♥

Sunday just flew by. I was wearing Luka in her anti the infinite holic-costume and the day was windy. I mean, It was impossible to walk outside with head dress and fluffy dress and a wig. And besides that there was cold so I stayed inside. (And because of that I don't have any new photos of that outfit). I didn't really do much besides watching amv competition. I was just hanging with my friends and waiting for something to happen. But overall it was a nice day and the convention was also nice :3

♥♥♥Sheryl Nome WIP♥♥♥

Sheryl is about to be ready! So excited!! ヽ( ★ω★)ノ I've been wanting to make this cosplay forever and I can't believe it's almost done. I only need to finish the shoes and sew the bow together and attach it somehow to the costume.
☆*:.。. o(≧▽≦)o .。.:*☆Anyways here's some wip pictures☆*:.。. o(≧▽≦)o .。.:*☆

I used some violet polyester fabric and on top of it I wanted organza, since I liked how it adds a little shine. The  skirt is actually full circle skirt, but it's just folded in half in the picture. That weird looking triangle is for the huge back bows ribbons and the rest of the pieces are for the bow and waistband.

I also added three layers of tulle under the skirt to give it some extra poof
The finished skirt came out so good!! I love how fluffy it looks, thanks to the tulle and horsehair braid I added. There's actually no zipper in the skirt and therefore no seams on the sides. I made the center circle wide enough for me to fit the skirt on me and then gathered the extra fabric with elastic band, so it stays on.

Here's a picture of the back bow when the ribbons are folded correctly. In the picture I haven't yet stitched them.

And the bow is actually 75 cm wide!!
Stitching
After I had made the skirt I added details to the corset and made choker and armband and gloves and stockings.

The easiest way to make a gloves: draw your had on a paper, cut it, place it on the stretchy fabric, sew following the lines, cut the excess fabric and done!

Choker and armband

I would have made the shoes already, but I didn't have any superglue left so I couldn't finish the edges。・゚゚・(>д<)・゚゚・。

Finally some pictures of the entire costume when It's laying on the floor and how it fits me

The quality is bad- iknow..And the lacing is off, I just wanted to see how everything looked on me

Next time I'll probably post some convention pictures since it's only week till the con (ノ´ヮ´)ノ*:・゚✧ Can't wait~
